Agra is, of course, the city of the Taj Mahal, a grieving emperor’s extravagant tribute to love, and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Once the capital of India (under the Mughal emperors), Agra is full of magnificent monuments dating back to the 16th and 17th century. Agra has three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort in the city and Fatehpur Sikri nearby.
The Agra Fort UNESCO World Heritage site. 40 km west of Agra, is the perfectly preserved phantom city of Fatehpur Sikri, also a UNESCO World Heritage site.There are also many other buildings and tombs from Agra’s days of glory as the capital of the Mughal Empire.
